East Sunshine has been involved in ministry in India since the 70's. Damon Vincent, one of our members, has been visiting there for nearly that long! (He's gone every year since 1985.)
In recent years, Damon has been spending about a week in Mumbai (Bombay), usually conducting small group meetings among the scattered Christians (only a few hundred among more than 18 million inhabitants of Mumbai). These are mostly Marathi and Hindi speakers, though many speak English.
He also spends about three weeks on the east coast among the Telugu-speaking people of Andhra Pradesh state. S. John and his son, Prakash, serve as Damon's interpreters in this area. Prakash is an excellent translator as well. He translates and publishes the literature used in the Bible seminars each summer. Damon
attempts to keep in contact with the 106 graduates of the Bible school and conducts meetings in their villages when possible. He generally sees about one third of them in the Bible seminars.
Damon retired at the end of 2008, so he will likely go to India in the winter months from now on because of the weather; temperatures reach 120 degrees in May. Besides, the monsoon comes in early June, making travel and outdoor meetings difficult.
